Therapist Nicky Carling explains why the challenges of September are giving her that Happy New Year feeling.
It’s that time of year when things get going and, for me, much more so than January 1st.
This is the time when you feel a buzz of excitement at new opportunities to come. The summer has begun to wind down which means shiny new school uniforms, new timetables, new things to learn and new football and rugby seasons.
All of these things require preparation and whatever it is that you are beginning or revisiting as the Autumn approaches, you need to be ready.
Your kit needs to be in excellent condition, your fitness needs to be right up there, you need to have your tactics, your strategies, your dietary and training plans in place and being stuck to. You need to have all of your ducks in a row or you may as well settle for second best and what’s the point in that?
You can have all of this nailed but, if your self-belief goes for a wander, you have immediately tripped yourself up. You can be at the top of your game but the merest hint of a wobble and you lose your edge, you lose what sets you apart.
As clients begin to set out on their new challenges that the Autumn brings with it, I am noticing an increase in those who recognise the importance their beliefs have on their performance. Those who feel that, with a bit of a cognitive boost, they can increase their output and their ability just enough to make the difference between them and everyone else.
Hypnotherapy is great for this sort of stuff, and visualisation techniques are well known for not only helping you to move your performance to the next level but to get rid of the little monster that sits on your shoulder at the crucial moment and says: “You really think you have this? Yeah, right!”
So if you have ticked all of your boxes but feel there might just be something to be gained from sorting those little bits in your head with hypnotherapy, what are you waiting for?

And by the way…. Happy New Year!
