Olly Clay was a 24-year-old squash player who played for Leicestershire and was head coach at one of the county’s biggest clubs when a knee injury changed his life.
“I was enjoying my squash and was head coach at Leicester Squash Club. I played and coached a lot and was very fit and athletic when a knee injury began to get worse and seriously affect me.
I carried on because it was my job but the knee began to hurt more and more. I asked for the opinions of a few different physios and sought their advice but I never felt comfortable on the court. Nothing was working.
I eventually came to the realisation that my knee would never be strong enough to play and coach again and I had to stop playing. Not only was my knee suffering, but the bio mechanics of my body had got out of line because I was compensating for my injury so much. The problems had even spread to my hip.
They were rough times, as you could imagine.
My cousin put me in touch with Julie Hayton and Tom Heeley just as Julie first set up Function Jigsaw – and they soon diagnosed exactly what the problem was.
They gave me a strict rehab routine which I stuck to and things improved at a dramatic rate. It’s that follow-up service that stands Function Jigsaw out from the rest. There is such a huge amount of rehab experience there, that they know how you can help yourself get back to fitness and then, crucially, maintain it.
Within three months after progressive rehab, I was back playing squash again. I felt strong and it was a great feeling to be back out there again doing what I loved doing.
There was never any recurrence of the problem and it gave me a new lease of life to be feeling fit and healthy.
I still play squash now I am 30 and am a personal trainer at a gym called Optimal Strength in Leicester.
To have that feeling of being fit, healthy and active again is fantastic.
I cannot recommend Function Jigsaw highly enough to anyone, whether you are a serious sportsman, or a member of the public.
