Fleckney and Kibworth Running Club packed out the Function Jigsaw clinic for an evening of expert tips and ideas from our staff.
They were given three presentations during the evening. One was on running injuries and how to avoid them, the second focused on strength training and how to properly warm up and there was also a discussion on the importance of nutrition.
Sports therapist Lauren Dobson spoke to the Fleckney and Kibworth runners first about the injuries that often occur in their sport. She explained what the predisposing factors are, and suggested ideas for both prevention and rehabilitation.
He also spoke about some simple pre-activation techniques using Active Bands to reduce the risk of injuries and improve preparation for races and events.

Finally, Chris Slomka of Optimal Strength discussed the relevancy of strength training and how it can assist with increased speed, power and endurance. He also spoke about the basics of nutrition and how to use that to your best advantage, whether that be fueling for a day-to-day life or an event like a marathon.
Andy Kemp, a prominent member of the club said the evening had been warmly received by all who attended.
“It went really well and I got a lot of good feedback from everyone,” he said. “I would like us to do a follow-up session in six months time and would recommend it to other clubs because we found it very informative and useful.
“Everything was relevant to us from warm-up to injury prevention and nutrition to warm down. It was also good to learn how useful the Active Kit foam rollers can be too.”
