The Curve Theatre’s wonderful productions of Grease and The Twits are coming to an end in Leicester and Function Jigsaw are delighted to have played a small part in helping the show run smoothly.
Our Events Team have been providing regular sports massages to the cast of the shows inbetween performances. And our sports therapists have been treating any niggles or injuries picked up by the cast during their energetic shows and rehearsals.
Roald Dahl’s The Twits is nearing the end of a run of six weeks, while extra dates were added for Grease, directed by Nikolai Foster, which will eventually have had eight weeks on stage when it ends on January 21. Both shows have been tremendously popular with the public and the Curve has enjoyed bumper ticket sales over the Christmas period.
It has been great fun meeting the dedicated members of the cast, as well as the people who all work so hard behind the scenes to make it all happen. Their role is just as important.
Sunita Patel is Curve’s Senior Business Development Manager and she said the cast had got a lot out of the link with Function Jigsaw.
“We have been extremely pleased with the service that Function Jigsaw have been providing by coming into our theatre regularly to offer treatments and advice to two of our companies across this year’s Christmas season,” she said.
“All our actors and cast members go through an intense period of rehearsing, a lot of which is dance based, and not unlike professional athletes, put their bodies under significant amount of physical strain.
Cast and crew
“It really benefits the theatre to be able to offer this on site as it cuts down on travel time for an already time-pressured cast and crew. Jess and the team have been getting excellent feedback about their expertise, and professional and personalised service form everyone who had treatments from them whilst performing in our two big shows.
“We are already looking at getting Function Jigsaw in for future Curve productions to support cast and crew for injury prevention and treatments.
“Curve are always keen to work with local businesses to help us make sure we offer a welcoming, professional environment to work, and we look forward to building on our existing partnership with Function Jigsaw.”
Cast members enjoyed our service too.
Darren Bennett, who plays Vince Fontaine in Grease said: “It was always an absolutely fantastic massage. There is nothing worse than being tickled on a massage couch and this was firm and consistent. Just what the doctor ordered to keep my old body still functional for eight shows a week.”
Justin Thomas, who played Johnny Casino in Grease added: “I couldn’t recommend Function Jigsaw enough. Their brilliant massages really helped me get through the crazy Christmas schedule.”
And Grease’s Patty Simcox, played by Sophie Camble, said of our masseur Jess Warrington: “I can’t tell you how great you really are Jess. We all love you and always get excited when we know you are coming in!”
